niri on nixos

It feels like such an injustice struggling this much to get niri (https://github.com/YaLTeR/niri) working with nixos (https://nixos.org/). (I refuse to use the niri flake because flakes give me impostor vibes and they scare me: https://github.com/sodiboo/niri-flake)
